And the answer is YES. Though you may have packed the items in closed boxes and isolated the location in the basement. The presentation of the boxes takes away from seeing the basement from it's space and potential. Be it a finished basement or an unfinished space, leaving boxes just create an eye sore and will make your basement look smaller than it is.
If for example you have a wonderful finished basement then boxes take away from the recreation view of the room and looks like storage space.
So what do you do?
1. Look at moving those packed boxes to the utility space of the basement. Can you store them in a corner of the garage? Attic space?
2. Rent a storage near by and moving your packed boxes there. Rent a storage pod - these are storage containers that are moved on a back of truck to a storage location.
3 How about asking a neighbor or even a family member who lives near by if you could store your boxes in a space area that does not interfere their functional needs of their home.
By clearing your finished or unfinished basement your buyer(s) will see the amount of space they have and use their imagination as to what the basement could look like for them. They will come backwith plesant memories and you may end up with a SOLD house.
