Beans Cafe began in 1979 when Lynn Ballew realized her dream of creating a safe, peaceful place for Anchorage's homeless to find a warm meal, hot shower and cool company.  This is the 19th year the Empty Bowl Project has been in existence.  Attendees purchase a handmade ceramic bowl that they get to fill with yummy hot soups and cornbread prepared by Beans Cafe.

The Anchorage Empty Bowl Project's annual fundraiser takes place Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at the William A Eagan Civic and Convention Center from 11am to 2pm.  Tickets are sold out, but a limited supply will be made available at the door.  So make sure you get there early.  The cost is just $25 each.  You get to choose which handmade ceramic bowl you would like to use and take home with you.  There will also be a silent auction and a chance to bid on other handmade clay and glass pieces.  More than 2000 people are expected to attend.

Fill up on true "soul food" at the Anchorage Empty Bowl Project fundraiser.  Help Beans Cafe continue doing the great work they have done for the Anchorage community for more than 30 years.  While your hunger is satisfied, your heart will be warm with the knowledge that many other less fortunate Anchorage citizens will be able to eat as well.
