I have heard the table salt before but you better not spread because nothing will grow for several inches. Weeds or chemicals what is your pleasure

Pat,

Thank you for sharing the information, I will probably try the newspaper or the salt, I hope nothing else dies around it.

Pat, nothing is worse than spending hours pulling weeds! I need to get out in my yard now. I like the idea of planting flowers closer together - looks better and less weeds. Win - win!

Great tid bits! And as we sit with another 6 inches of snow on the ground, I'm looking forward to weeding.  We'll see how long that lasts.  ;)

How about doing away with the grass and giving in to letting things grow. I have veggies growing everywhere.....pole beans, dozens of bell pepper plants, cukes, melons, tomatoes........no grass for me and if the plant doesn't produce something useful, like herbs or fruit or veggies, I don't plant it. I use Spanish Moss as mulch to keep the weeds out and the water in.

Hey Pat,  Pulling weeds is such a chore.  I find a good thick layer of hardwood mulch works for a while.  It still seems like a never ending task though.  Thanks for the tips.

Hi Pat, no one likes pulling weeds.  Good tip which I didn't know is that the closer together you plant your flowers and vegetables, the less space weed seeds will have to grow.

I wish I had read this when you wrote it, maybe I wouldn't be faced with so many weeds now!  I should have put something down before the mulch....live and learn!
