Ask an Ambassador: Where Are the Buyers on Active Rain?
On Wednesday, I posted "Hey Active Rain Newbies, We Got Your Back." Since then, a lot of really good questions have been emailed to me so I thought I'd share them with you for
- the benefit of Active Rain Newbies as well as the membership at large AND
- So that AR veterans and other members could weigh in on the question and share their expertise, experience or knowledge
The Question: AR Seems to be utilized by other realtors, and not necessarily interested buyers and sellers, is this the case?
Oftentimes new members believe that Active Rain is solely for the benefit of its members and this misconception can be for a couple of reasons:
- Consumers very rarely comment on the blog post (even on other platforms)
- There are a great many peer to peer posts AND
Members should not for one second be deceived by the lack of consumer comments. That is not uncommon across many platforms. What we have found is that the consumers, like AR Newbies, will lurk for days, months or in some cases years before a member even knows about it. How do we know this? We hear it from consumers. When they finally do make contact with us, they may say something like the following:
- I have been reading your Active Rain post since last year OR
- They may just bump into us in the grocery store and say "hey, I read your post about so and so." (don't forget to get their contact info. It's called lead generation). Also
- If you "like" your post so that it post to FB, people within your FB SOI are reading it. Maybe not all of them, but certainly the ones that have an interest in your product or service or post.
But even before that contact, you can tell the "reach" of your post by the chart below.
Notice the title of the post. Now notice the number of comments (1st numberic column) compared to the number of views (2nd numeric column) and clicks (3rd numeric column). Views indicate how many people saw the post on the blogroll. Clicks indicate how many people actually clicked on the link to read it. These 'clicks' come from within Active Rain as well as from Google, so please whatever you do, don't, make the mistake of thinking that only AR members are reading your post. You couldn't be further from truth.
What else do these clicks tell you? For starters they tell you that you need to be writing more about that topic, because apparently people are interested in it.
Now let's talk about peer to peer posts. Let us not forget that Active Rain is a "network" that allows peers to make connections all across this country and other countries as well. Some people say that they are not here to make friends, but ask the "referral" agent and they'll tell you that is exacly why they are here. Any agent that is looking to make referral connections hits the referral jackpot when they discover Active Rain. As a peer to peer group, we also teach and learn from one another and for many, AR is the mentor that they don't have at their own company and everyone contributes to that their and knowledge.
The question that I received had multiple parts so I'll stop here and myself or another AR Ambassador will post another question and address it.
