A person can learn a lot from a dog

“A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight.  And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity.   Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty.””

Sondra this is a great reminder. So many people don't bother taking responsibility for the well being of their furry companions. It's so sad.

Oh man Sondra, you are going to get me to cry now, cause I do remember reading that book on Marley. Dogs are the most faithful companions, loyal, and most loving creatures I think any of us will ever find. Reading about so many pet losses across the Rain every one of them had that loud and clear message that they are a part of our family. Spaying and neutering and adoption are all the responsible way to go with ownership. Also, your CLEAR message. If we pay attention to our animals, they teach us so much about life. There is a reason I think their lifespans are shorter. They already know all along to be nice and to love people. We humans just take longer to learn THAT lesson of ultimate kindness.

Sondra~ Yep my dogs are part of my family and they are deep thinkers also! Certainly could learn something from their loyalty...

Sondra: I'm in love with that dog! Is it yours? If so, what a beauty!!!

I remember seeing Marlee and Me on Christmas Day when it was just released and I bawled my eyes out. Everything in that quote is so true. People need to take responsibility for their pets and adoption is a great way to be loved. A pet like Marlee will teach one all about unconditional love.

Suggested of course!

Sondra-I didn't watch that movie but I have the DVD Marley and me the puppy years that I need to watch. Dogs and even cats can teach us a lot. Great post. Have a great Friday.

I was talking with a volunteer at our local animal shelter, yesterday. I noticed the number of cats at the shelter was down. There were actually empty cages, which was good for me to see. Well she reminded me that kitten season was just around the corner. Soon all of those empty cages will be full again. We talked about the need for people to get their pets spayed and neutered. I just wish everyone would get the message. Most shelters have programs for people that can't afford the cost. These programs can be free or almost free to qualifying people.

I started crying about half way through Marley and Me - and never stopped. Honestly, open sobbing. :)  Just can't imagine not loving, or taking responsibility for a pet. They really do depend upon us to do the right thing.

Sondra, love this post. Dogs are the ultimate aren't they? Your's looks to be such a sweetheart. The Pikes Peak Humane Society (as do many local veternarians) does a wonderful job making allowances for pet owners who can't afford the cost of spaying/neutering. Great blog, suggested!
