The home buying process –
Step 3 ~ Select properties
The third step in the home buying process is selecting properties. At this point you have chosen a lender. The lender has helped you decide what type of loan your will be using, what price to keep your home search under and an idea of how much to ask for in settlement costs (closing costs if asking the seller to pay for them).
You have also chosen a real estate agent. Your buyer’s agent will help you narrow your search criteria. Buyer’s should choose the one “must have” for their home search. This is the one feature that the rest of the home search will be centered around. It could be a location, number of bedrooms, yard size or any number of items.
Here are a few items for your consideration:
Location
Lifestyle
Age of home
Size of home
Size of yard
Size of rooms
Style of home
Garage
Number of bedrooms
Number of bathrooms
Layout of home
Basement, crawl or slab
Well or city water
Sewer or septic
School system
Price of home
After discussing your wants and needs, your real estate agent will check the mls database for homes that best fit your search criteria. They will set up a client portal for you to select the homes that you would like to view.
