Last night I attended my very first drum circle! I had been visiting one of my favorite local stores here in Denver: Isis Books. When you walk in, the aromas of beautiful incense, candles, and even their own in-house “MoonKats” tea shop greets your nose.

I had been in the store and visiting with a friend there for about an hour when I ran into the hostess of this lovely drum circle. I was a bit hesitant since I have NO experience … but, I proceeded with excitement and wonder. On the way in to my new found expression of self I stopped off at the MoonKats counter and had the most delicious organic, herbal berry with blueberry syrup, iced tea – created by the on staff tea-master Rob, a former executive chef for some local country clubs! YUMMM!
The music room was setup with candles, sage to clear the energies, and an array of different drums for the picking! Sitting on the floor, channeling my inner gypsy, I started with a small hand crafted drum and gradually rotated through the vast choices of others throughout the night. I must say … this was THE BEST experience I have had in a very long time. The women (no men in this class last night ) were powerful and mighty, yet peaceful and serene. We closed our eyes and each found our own contribution to the heart beat. No judgment or self consciousness was present. Using the inner voice, the connection with the universal powers, and the expression of self, seemed to yield some pretty great tunes. I am certainly no John Bonham… BUT, I Can’t wait to “raise the roof” next month when they meet on April 12th at Isis Book Store … I encourage more locals to come join the fun!

Check out the other classes and events at Isis Books - ... I have a feeling you won't be disappointed!
