Drum Circle in Denver At Isis Books

Last night I attended my very first drum circle! I had been visiting one of my favorite local stores here in Denver: Isis Books. When you walk in, the aromas of beautiful incense, candles, and even their own in-house “MoonKats” tea shop greets your nose.

ISIS BOOKS AND GIFTSMOON KATS

I had been in the store and visiting with a friend there for about an hour when I ran into the hostess of this lovely drum circle. I was a bit hesitant since I have NO experience … but, I proceeded with excitement and wonder. On the way in to my new found expression of self I stopped off at the MoonKats counter and had the most delicious organic, herbal berry with blueberry syrup, iced tea – created by the on staff tea-master Rob, a former executive chef for some local country clubs! YUMMM!

DRUM CIRCLE DENVER

The music room was setup with candles, sage to clear the energies, and an array of different drums for the picking! Sitting on the floor, channeling my inner gypsy, I started with a small hand crafted drum and gradually rotated through the vast choices of others throughout the night.  I must say … this was THE BEST experience I have had in a very long time. The women (no men in this class last night ) were powerful and mighty, yet peaceful and serene. We closed our eyes and each found our own contribution to the heart beat. No judgment or self consciousness was present. Using the inner voice, the connection with the universal powers, and the expression of self, seemed to yield some pretty great tunes. I am certainly no John Bonham… BUT, I Can’t wait to “raise the roof” next month when they meet on April 12th at Isis Book Store … I encourage more locals to come join the fun!

Erin, I have not heard of this type of thing. Probably we are too small town for it to happen here.

Erin, I can't believe that was your first drum circle.  Aren't they great.  I hit my first drum circle about 25 years ago at a Grateful Dead concert when I was probably.................about your age, ha ha.

Erin,  I attended a Circle Drumming event about 18 years ago, it was and still is a popular holistic event.  I'm glad you enjoyed it.  I'm going to try meditation next week...I'm been wanting to learn this art for some time.  Now I'm taken the plunge with Oprah's 21 day Challenge.  Hope we both have success!  Keep on Drumming.  :)

Debbie - I think you are right! I just checked on the national website that most of the drum circles use and there doesn't seem to be one :( - Bummer! You could always drum in your backyard! ha!

Scott - you are a man after my own heart! HA! I can't wait to do more - I wish they were every week!!

Berni - Best of luck to you. I make a daily practice of meditation - it really helps to ground me and also awaken me at the same time! You should check to see if there are any Deeksha Oneness Blessings in your area - great start for a meditation practice!

Thanks for sharing your experience.  Now, you need to write a blog defining a Drum Circle for those of us that are not familiar with what it means.

I think I would enjoy a drum circle.  I would find it very soothing pounding on something.
