Ask an Ambassador:  What is "Report a Concern" All About?

It probably took me over a year to figure out what "Report a Concern" was all about.  I believe another member had written a post about it during the time Active Rain was experiencing a tremendous amount of spam.   The "Report a Concern" link was already in existence when we were getting a lot of spam, but I had no idea that the "Report a Concern" link was used to report spam to the AR staff.

If you haven't received an occasional spam in the comments section of your post, consider yourself lucky.  But if you ever do, then don't bother deleting it.  Instead, just click on the "Report a Concern" link in the comment section where the spam comment exist, and the spam will be reported to the staff.

But wait a minute, there is more. For all of us points mongers, you'll be interested in knowing that you get points for reporting a concern.

So the next time you see a comment in your post that resembles this: "my Aunt Sally  made $499/hour selling widgets on the internet and you can  too........" Just "Report a Concern" get your brownie points and move on.

By the way, your points will show up as "other points" just so you know.

Hi Charita,

Good information to get out there to everyone. We are fortunate not to get too much spam..but if you do let the staff know so they can correct it!

Charita, I've also used the "Report a concern" link when someone is well outside of the "playing nice in the sandbox" rules.  Either loading up on promotional links or abusive language towards the poster as a couple of examples.

Jeanne and Ralph I rarely see spam anymore.  Every now and then, I'll get hit with some but it's far more palateable than a couple of years ago when we were inundated with spam.

Dorrie I think before I know what the like was for, I was afraid to click on it, but once I learned, then I'd click it in a heartbeat.

Barbara I had not connected the two (spam and featured post).  I'll have to pay more attention to that .  Thanks for the tip.

BLiz I have never even considered that, but heck why not.  It's a valid concern right?

Charita:  I've used that feature, typically when I've seen the noisey obnoxious spam that gets through.  The spam seems to come and go.  Not sure why.  But I have a question this morning for you.  On my blog ... the little green dots that represent "re-blogs" of a post?  My dots are just indicating that it HAS been re-blogged ... and by an agent.  But it no longer provides names.  And I always thank each member for their re-blogs.  I can't do that right now ... but the problem seems to have occurred since all the recent changes on the posts came about.  Is it just me??  Or is everyone having this issue???

GREAT posts by the way.  Love that we have these tutorials and a place to ask questions!

Gene

Gene although the spam may come and go, AR has a far better grip on it then it did in the past.  My have to ask Kerrie about that one.

As for the re-blog, I have noticed the same thing and I have tried using different browsers to see if I get different results.  Sometimes I can see the drop down list of people that have reblogged and sometimes I only see the "number" of people the reblog it.  My best guess is that when AR made some recent changes, they inadvertently caused a malfunction with the reblog.  Another question for Kerrie.

Hi Charita - As a dedicated spam hunter, it's worth pointing out that you can report up to 10 spam posts a day for points - a total of 100 points per day. And you're right, AR has gotten much better about keeping the spam out - it's getting harder to bag my limit.

Dick I used to know that back in the day.  I guess you're going to have to bag some points somewhere else.

Charita:  Wanted to make clear that I wasn't complaining about the spam thing.  Just noting what I find odd ... that it seems to come and go in bunches.  Like I said, not really sure why I note more at one point than another.

As far as the re-blog issue, I'm always having to unload and reload programs for lending on my comp ... and I wanted to make sure that I somehow hadn't "bumped" or caused an issue with my re-blog drop down or something when doing that recently.  It's somewhat re-assuring to hear that others may be having this issue too.  At least I know it's not me or my personal computer.  I will write Kerrie ... but I'm guessing they're already on it if others are experiencing the same thing.

Thanks for the info!

Gene

Hey Gene I didn't interpret it that you were complaining and I hope my response didn't appear to take it that way.  I was just saying it from the perspective that we were lucky not to be bother with so much spam.  I certain didn't read a complaint into your comment.

I did contact AR via their link at the bottom of the page about the reblog think.  I probably would have reported it yesterday, but I just figured it the problem would be gone by today.

Charita, Some of the spam I have seen is coming in the emails. I wonder what we do about that.

Debbie it has been about 2 years since I have gotten spam directly through email.  I have my notifications set so that I receiver email notifications when someone comments on one of my post.  So the only time I receive spam in my email from AR is when a spam comment is left. Debbie I'd say that if you are receiving them frequently, then definitely report it to AR.

Hi,

It amazes me what we have the ability to overlook. I don't think that I've ever noticed that "Report a Concern Link" I've got the "Edit" link down thought.

On an unrelated note, I finally remembered my friend was in Decator. I used to fly into Birmingham and then would drive the rest of the way.
