Arizona is perfect because there are few restrictions on rural land depending on the area you choose. The cost of an alternative could save you a lot of money over a site built home and be as comfortable.

People in Arizona have used yurts, teepees, strawbale building, tents on platforms, earthen homes, and repossed manufactured homes to live in.  Many of these altA straw bale home interiorernative ideas are ideal for a part or full time home.  Pole-mounted solar panels can be used with any of these homes to provide electricity.

This week I will write blogs about the design and feasibility of modern teepees, yurts, tents, and straw-bale building. Soon I will also write on another trend happening in our area where so may people have had to give up their manufactured homes.

I'm in the Metropolitan area of NYC and so I'm off to Google yurts and strawbale.  I'm also subscribing to you because this is the greatest thing about AR.  I'm learning something new every day

Hi Judith... I just found you by reading Liz Wallace blog about your post.... now I'm wondering what happens during storms...you must get something other than sunshine in Arizona..... that tent might get blown away.... or not!!

We always have sunshine!  Oh, just kidding, only most of the time.  These structures are a lot more stable than they might seem and all of them survive storms well if they are built or put right.

I just found this, I am making plans in the next year or so to find land in Concho,AZ. And plan to get a tent. Any recommendations for a tent would be wonderful. I worry about getting the correct tent for all the different climates there
