Question: Where can I recycle fluorescent light bulbs in theColorado Springs and Pikes Peak region?
Answer: Blue Star Recyclers
Their mission: to create local jobs for people with disAbilities.
According to their website, Blue Star Recyclers discovered developmentally disabled people, especially those with autism spectrum disorder, actually have a strong aptitude for computer and electronics disassembly into base materials that can then be ethically recycled.
What a great opportunity for both the company and its employees.
Did you know?
· 95%-98% of electronic components are fully recyclable.
· Electronics contain toxins such as mercury, lead, cadium, and arsenic that can cause cancer and birth defects.
· Recycling and destroying hard disk drives can protect your identity.
Fortunately, Blue Star Recyclers has received a grant through the Pikes Peak Area Rotary Endowment that enables them to now offer fluorescent bulb recycling services for businesses and residents of the Pikes Peak region. This includes straight tubes, u-tubes and compact fluorescent (CFLs) light bulbs. Residents may bring any quantity and any size to their facility. Pick up is available to businesses and organizations for larger quantities. This new service has already created one local position.
You can help support their efforts by recycling with them. More recycling means more jobs.
Please educate your friends, co-workers, and office human resources personnel about recycling your computer, electronic components and fluorescent light fixtures at Blue Star Recyclers.
