Your 2013 Goals.....
March of 2013 is the end of the first quarter of 2013. This is a great time to start reevaluating your goals you set at the beginning of 2013.
Many people set many different goals at the beginning of the year:
1. Lose weight
2. Buy a house
3. Sell Current house and buy a new one
4. Save more money this year
5. Get out of Debt
6. Read more books this year
7. Read the bible
8. Start going to church
9. Go to church more consistently
No matter what your goals for 2013 are, now is a good time to revisit them and make any adjustments that need to be made to make sure you hit them this year.
To help make sure your goals are a reality this year using the S.M.A.R.T.E.R. method helps you focus and hit your goals.
S. Specific goals are precise and clear. They are not broad or ambiguous. In Gary Keller's new book "The One Thing" he talks about being laser focus on one thing for each area of you life.
M. Measurable goals let you know how you're progressing. If you don't know you won't be able to make the necessary adjustments to make sure you hit your goals. Also you need to be able to see how you're progressing. If you goal is to lose weight you need to weigh yourself periodically to know if you're actually losing weight.
A. Attainable/Achievable goals are goals that pass the common sense test. If your goal is to save $1 million dollars and you don't make more than $1 million dollars a year that is not a attainable goal.
R. Realistic goals are things that you are willing and able to do. You know yourself and your personality. If your goal is to get up at 5:00 AM every morning and go to the gym. Is that realistic if you've never gotten up before 8:00 AM and let alone gone to the gym. You might need to adjust your goal to say three times a week you'll get up at 6:00 AM and go to the gym. Realistic goals are ones that are realistic for you.
T. Time-sensitive goals have a deadline that can be found on a calender. Time-frames attached to your goals provide a sense of urgency and motivate you.
E. Evaluate your goals regularly to make adjustments for family/health situations that come up.
R. Redo your goals after you evaluate them to get back on track.
Goals are great things to have and can accomplished if you follow a systematic approach to them. If you follow this plan then 2013 can and will be the best year of your life.

I love this! I've heard about SMART goals, but not SMARTER goals! I think I do the evaluation, and re-do step, but it's great to have it as a part of my thought process!

James, the SMARTER approach is a great way to step forward in our lives. Gary Keller will be coming to Chicagoland to talk about his new book in a few short weeks.
