I am in the middle of financing a homebuyer purchasing a new construction home in Vancouver, WA. It was ironic that this specific buyer submitted two other full offer contracts on properties under $300,000 in Vancouver and lost both to higher bids. Our market is on fire!
So with the increasing number of Veterans coming home, I thought I would share one of VA's many requirments and assist a builder to obtain a “VA Builder ID number”.
Builders are not approved by VA. They need only to register with VA to obtain a VA Builder ID number. Thus, there is no lenghty processing time and in most cases, an ID number can be issued with one to two days.
I have attached the links required to approve any builder through VA.. I hope this is useful to anyone that comes across this situation.
All properties designated as “new,” “proposed,” or “under” construction (not just condos) must have a valid builder identification number on file with the VA.
You can check to see if you are already a VA Approved Builder by searching here:

If you are not yet approved, you will need to complete the following 3 documents. Once the forms have been completed, fax all documents to the Denver Construction and Valuation Department for review. Their number is (888) 349-7541 to get the most up to date fax number. If you are not a builder from Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington or Wyoming you will have to contact the Construction and Valuation unit of the local VA Regional Loan Center from your area and ask for their fax number.

Information concerning VA Builder ID number requirements can also be found in the VA Lenders Handbook (VA Pamphlet 26-7), section 10.07, page 10-14.
All condominium projects must be approved by VA. For VA condominium approval information, please contact me. The condopudbuilder website (above) can also be accessed for verification of condominium projects previously approved or accepted for VA home loan purposes. The VA does not perform or accept “spot approvals” in condominium projects.
