Does your Curb lack Appeal?
Stand in front of your home, watch for cars and then stand in the street. Take a picture. Download it on your computer. Pull it up full frame. Use a discerning eye (try squinting). Does that house (because you’re not looking at your home, it’s now a commodity) look like one you can’t wait to call your Realtor® and ask to see what’s inside?
To actively compete, and to get top dollar for your home, it needs to look like you shopped for a snazzy “first-day-on-the-job” outfit.
1. Put some lipstick on the Front Door.
A freshly painted front door sends a message to potential buyers that there is pride of ownership here. A faded and chipped front door tells buyers this home has been neglected. Check with your professional home stager to help you select a beautiful hue that works for your home. Here are a few suggestions:

2. Use your Jazz hands / House Numbers / and wave those buyers inside.
If they can’t read ‘em, they can’t find you.
Check out local home improvement centers and online sites for a more current style. Brushed nickel and oil-rubbed bronze are just two finishes that instantly give an updated feel. They come in a myriad of creative, typographic styles. If budget is tight, paint them.
3. Dapper Door Mat.
Nothing too theme-y or cute. Keep it simple and complement the exterior color palette. And, if you can’t decide, go with the classic black rubber, rod-iron-gate look.
4. Lights. Illuminate and showcase.
Are you one of the millions that have builder-brass garage fixtures? Hard to get enthusiastic about those. Make a statement with carriage lights or lanterns. Keep architectural style and scale in mind when making your selections. Don’t forget the walkways. Solar lights are affordable and create instant drama which translates to higher value.
5. Add Bling with Accessories and Plants.
Door knockers, kick plates, wall-mounted mail boxes all add presence. Draw attention to your show-stopping entry with seasonal plants. Mother Nature is the best decorator. Pine boughs or birch branches in your patio pots are a fresh way to accentuate and soften the hard angles of a front entry in the wintertime. A large pot of pansies are a cool-hardy flower that add a great pop of color.
Don’t let your property curb its enthusiasm. Listing your home requires extra attention to the front exterior, including the lawn. A properly dressed home will stop buyers in their tracks.
