Florida Hardest Hit fund - money for the taking, not being taken!

Florida Hardest Hit fund is a resource for underwater homeowners who can apply for temporary assistance if they are unemployed.  In Florida, the fund is just over 1 Billion ($1,000,000,000) dollars and nearly all of it is still available even though the program has been in existence for over two and a half years.

But, like many well meaning government programs and giveaways, the Florida Hardest Hit program is full of fraud and waste as evidenced by a recent article by Susan Taylor Martin in the Tampa Bay Times.

Tax dollars are paying Florida mortgages for felons, debtors

Florida has banned giving money from the fund to people with a "mortgage related felony", but many of the recipients have been convicted of other types of crimes including fraud, forgery, possession of pornography, drivers license fraud and theft.

The website www.flhardesthithelp.org can provide additional information on eligibility and the application process.  Note, at the top of the page there is an advisory warning that several company's are advertising on the internet to assist applicants in processing their paperwork (for a fee).  There is no charge to apply for assistance from the Florida Hardest Hit fund!
