Feng Shui and The Color of Your Front Door

Maybe you've never given it a thought, but the color of your front door is very important in Feng Shui. Indeed, a home's front door is considered the Feng Shui The Color of Your Front Door"mouth of chi" where energy enters the home, and, as such is given much attention and consideration to ensure the occupants enjoy good health, happy relationships, and prosperity.

Color Choice Matters

A front door that is painted red is not only striking and vibrant, it is traditionally considered the most fortunate color for the front door. Red symbolizes good luck and financial abundance, so if you want to invite those qualities into your living space, (and who wouldn't?), you may want to think about painting your front door red.

Green is another popular color choice for front doors in Feng Shui because it is the color of money, and it also symbolizes health.

A purple front door is not very common, but, if you want to call spiritual energy into your home, it is an excellent choice.

Direction Matters

The direction that your front door faces is also an important consideration in Feng Shui. Use a compass, (download the app for your iPhone here), to determine which direction your front door is facing when you are standing inside looking out. Once you know the direction, you can choose the best Feng Shui colors for your front door.

  • South: red, burgundy, purple
  • South West: yellow, brown, orange, yellow
  • West: white, yellow, gold, silver
  • North West: white, gold, yellow, silver
  • North: black, blue
  • North East: yellow, brown, terra cotta
  • East: green, blue
  • South East: green, blue, turquoise

I hope I have sparked your interest in Feng Shui, and I encourage you to explore it further. Here are some Feng Shui tips to get you started on your journey.

Janelle,

Thanks, I've had many buyers concerned with the direction the home faces.  Knowing what color to paint the door may be helpful when it doesn't face their preferred direction.

Hi Janelle, This is pretty interesting, my front door is green but my house faces the north. Perhaps I should paint it a different color

Janelle,  Very interesting synopsis and I'm glad you explained it so well.  I've heard some people have concerns about, house numbers, colors, facing direction of the property, and even swimming pools.  So there maybe a lot of truth in this.  Thanks for sharing! :)

Hi everyone!

Dan-Good for you. Some Realtors are sensitive to the Feng Shui concerns of buyers and treat them as seriously as any other concerns.

Joan-Always go with what feels right for you.

Berni-You are welcome!

PP&GBPM-You are also welcome!

Ginger-Thanks. I read your post the other day about your family and "going home". You are blessed to have such a loving family, and they are blessed to have you.
