Will Your Stairs Pass a Building Inspection?

Poor step construction

I don’t know why it is, but it seems that many of the stairs in the Sacramento apartment communities do not meet the current building code. What really gets me is that many of the building code violations were a part of the original construction. By that, I mean that the stairs never did meet the building code.

Take these stairs for example; these are the original stairs at an apartment in Sacramento, CA. The concrete is not new, it was poured way back when the community was built. There were several stairways that matched this one on the property. This is a building code violation that can be very dangerous to those who use it.  I’m not real sure how this is possible.

So this is a matter of something getting approved by an inspector when it shouldn't have been.

Tom, I see this all the time. Commercial buildings have even more restricted codes than residential when it comes to stairs, rails and guards.

Makes you wonder if the money spent for building permits (if permits were obtained) is sometimes more of a revenue grab more than protecting consumers.

Looks pretty clear to me Roger. But alas, it was not done.

Some of the details get left to the end and seems to get pushed through the process Donald.

There have been some pretty unusual actions they may support your theory Wayne.
