Franciscan Sunday to Celebrate the Gift of a New Pope

Catholics and Christians around the world are a little excited with the selection of a new pope this week and I think that most are very happy with the man who will be leading the church here on earth.

I was impressed that he chose to take the name Francis, a very humble man who was on fire with Christ’s love and compassion, a man who started three orders of religious people who have gone on to spread Christ’s love throughout the world for the past 800 years.

Later this morning after Mass we will be having a gathering of our Franciscan group and I am sure that the new pope will be a topic of conversation there too.

I hope that you all have a very happy Sunday, and a very happy St Patrick’s Day, enjoy the peace prayer of St Francis in the video below.

The new Pope has some challenges but I did here that he relates well with the Spanish speaking community.

Good morning,

I hope you enjoyed the service this morning.   I personally hadn't taken the time to consider the name that he chose, but now that you mention it - I too am impressed.  Whenever, I think of St. Francis, I've think of a person that looked out for everyone to include the animals.

Thank you for sharing the nice video also.

My husband's middle name is Franics - after the Patron Saint. His birthday is also December 17th, the same as the new pope. We are wishing the new Pope the best in the coming months and years.

Hi Bob, I think people all over the world, regardless of religious beliefs will be very pleased with our new Pope. I for one am very, very glad! It was a good choice and I hope he will lead the people and the world to peace and good will toward all man and beast. I couldn't get the video to work. I'll check back tomorrow. I hope you had a good day.
