HI,
We went to our first presentation tonight, to talk to some elderly men about the pro's and cons of moving out of the family home. It was extremely interesting how so many of them were staying in their homes because they couldn't face going through thier clutter, or they had become comfortable with thier surroundings, such as shops, neighbours, friends, etc.
It took myself, my partner, a real estate agent and an accountant, to finally make these very sad looking men realise there was an alternative, it didn't necesarily mean moving into a seniors home, it didn't mean they had to necessarily move very far from where they were, and we explained that we could help them go through thier clutter and sort through thier posessions that they may want to pass on. We would also help them prepare thier home to sell, and also help them set up in a new home, making sure they take as many memories with them. It was a strange feeling to see the faces looking back at me as if they were in deep thought about what they think they should do.
These days too many seniors leave it too late, and then it becomes a burden on thier children to have to sort through the clutter and belongings. It really doesn't have to be that way.
Many of them didn't know there were services out there for them. The focus of our business is to help the baby boomers and seniors of today. If anyone has any great ideas of how we can get the word out to the older generation, it would be very much appreciated.
I would also love to hear any of your comments or experiences with the older generation
Many thanks
Tricia
