As someone fairly new to ActiveRain, I found this post to be very helpful.  I'm steadily going up in points and writing blogs and recommending blogs.  This post give me some concrete numbers to work with and a good base.  I hope that you find this as helpful as I did.  I know it really helped me.

Lady Chemist

As a physical chemist I am a numbers type of gal.   I like numbers….Breath numbers…. Think in numbers….I am married to a numbers type of guy …. A Math Professor at Boise State University.

I started blogging in January of 2008…. I did it here and there but didn’t pay any attention to the points….  I took a break from blogging (OK I occasionally signed on and blogged).  I started a wordpress blog to attempt to deal with blogging and social media and then called activerain and they grandfathered me in so I didn’t have to pay.  Now I am blogging seriously…. I am reading other people’s blogs… I think its helping….I have climbed on the leaderboard in Idaho.  So I was started realizing if I did this right I could get 4000 points a week…..  Here it goes….

1)    Make at least 10 blog posts a week and make sure you add a category to them.   That is good for 2250 points.

2)    Make 10 comments on other members posts… That will give you another 1225 points.

3)    For each comment you receive you get some points (I sort of think it averages out to 5 per comment but I am not sure).

4)    Everytime you reblog you get points.

5)    If you get a feature you get at least 200 extra points and more subscribers….

6)    If you really like a post use the suggest button.  I really don’t know how many points you get but you get something if its featured.

7)    Enter contests…. It is good for you and you get points.   Right now I am in my first contest.  The 2011 December blog challenge.  Its fun….

The first two are automatic and are worth 3475 active points a week.  The week goes from Monday to Monday on eastern time.  Since November I have had 2 featured articles and jumped in points.  I think I actually have been getting 5000 per week….

Of course points are not the real reason to blog.  The real reason to blog is to make friends, contacts and show you are internet savvy.   It also helps on your google rankings.   Go google Debbie Holmes….  Please don’t click the ad (I pay per click).   Happy Blogging from Great Boise Homes!

James, The numbers are off a little but that isn't what it entirely about. If you would go to the ActiveRain University and to questions, the points are outlined exactly. You get 25 points for each comment you make up to a total of 10 per day. Do this 7 days a week and that is 1750 points. You get an extra 100 points for a feature but more exposure so you will probably get more comment points coming to you at 4 points each up to a cap. Reblogging gives you 25 points up to 10 reblogs a week. You don't get points for suggesting a feature you are just doing good for the community. And of course every day you log on you get 100 points. The contest points help your totals climb much faster. Hope this helps.

Linda-You're welcome, I found this post and re-blogged it.  See Debbis's post for corrected points.

Debbie-Thank you for clarifying the points.  I didn't think you got points for suggesting a feature.

I think the weekly total is actually 4500 if you blog and comment to the fullest extent. Unless of course you do get a feature or two. You can also reblog up to 10 posts by fellow rainers.
