Have You Determined Where You Want to Live?

Buyers have ideas on where they want to live when it comes to a town. However, their buying power may not allow them to have the house of their dreams in the town that is their first choice. Then comes the process of prioritizing their needs based on the affordability of the home and then the services a town can offer.

Everyone has different needs. The home search often centers on either work convenience or school systems for their children. Other conveniences such as specialized services, churches, shopping, highway access also play a part in picking a home site.

Is a neighborhood with children of similar ages important or access to playgrounds?

These are all the considerations that a buyer needs to consider when making their search. An real estate professional has access to all of this information with the tools offered in their Multiple Listing Service provider.

Walk-ability scores are available. This provides an indication of the services offered within a walking distance of the home. These services can be restaurants, schools, shopping, churches, etc.

Demographics of a neighborhood are also available as an indication of the ages of the residents and even a range of household incomes.

There are many considerations that need to be addressed when choosing a home, and choosing the right agent will get you these answers.

Ed, I find many have no idea and they tell me they must live in such a town and then buy 2 towns over...not sure why but as you say there are many considerations in the choice.

Ed, we often see first-time home buyers who want to live in Franklin and find it's slightly out of their price range. Fortunately, there are so many wonderful nearby options in communities adjacent to Franklin.

Ed these are all things that need to be considered, but you hit the nail on the head in your last paragraph.  You need the right Realtor to then put all that information together and find that perfect house for you.

Ed, excellent suggestions for our spring buyers.  As you said some don't really know and others know without a doubt but can't always afford to live where they want.  Others say I will 'know it when I see it.'  Well, good luck to their agent.  Thanks for the clarification of the process.

Excellent blog Ed and very well written, it's worthy of a feature and we suggested it. This would be a great read for buyers and an addition to your buyer's presentation book!

Ginny, the heart may be willing but then the house get's them or their budget does.

Tammie, it's no different up here either, most purchases are based on schools for the kids.

George, and then the right loan officer

Thanks Gloria, buyers need as much help as they can get and are often so timid about asking.

Mary, some agents will gladly get them into their town and a better deal might be just a short distance away.

Hi Al & Peggy, it's just the education process for buyers
