Four Year Old Check Up
We have been seeing the same prediction at Fayetteville Children’s Clinic since our daughter Isabella was born and Bella loves Dr. Kelly. I remember the first time my husband and I met Dr. Kelly and Isabella was only a few hours old. He came by the hospital to check her over and I felt like he held my baby like a rag doll and was not gently...new mommy and lack of sleep. Well, I remember asking him before he left if he had any kids and he said no. I didn’t think much about it. He is a very quiet man with a dry sense of humor, but an awesome doctor and great with kids. He was getting ready to leave the room and he looked up on his way out and said “I don’t have kids because I don’t like them” (he was joking) he smiled and left. Of course, I freaked out as a new mom wouldn't you, right? The nurse that was in there started laughing and said he loves kids and jokes around with all new parents. Looking back it was pretty funny. Fayetteville Children’s Clinic and Dr. Kelly came highly recommended and I would not want my daughter seen by anyone else. The doctor’s and nurses there are amazing!
Today I took my little girl in for her 4 year old check up. Time flies so fast and can’t believe she is already four. Anyway, I thought it would be a simple in an out appointment since every year she got her immunizations. I thought she would have been caught up by now, well I was wrong and she was not happy. As a parent we do everything we can to make sure they are taken care of and it breaks my heart to see her in pain and cry. I’m afraid of needles myself, but I didn’t tell her that. She had her hearing and eyes tested and everything was great. She had a little growth on her chest for a long time and it was suppose to eventually pop on it’s own, well it didn’t. So, Dr Kelly recommended putting a little slit in it and assisting it...scalpel and squeezing... equals tears for my little baby, but it had to be done. So, ontop of that she had to have three shots in her little thighs. She was so brave today and we were so proud of how well she did. She didn’t think she was brave because she cried. I told her even brave people cry. Dr. Kelly felt so bad, but Bella gave him a big hug after and said she still liked him, that was funny. Every kids loves stickers, she got three stickers, a bracelet and Dr. Kelly gave her his bouncy ball she always plays with...he is such a sucker for kids. :)
So, I took her to lunch and let her have a cookie before bringing her back to school. It was so nice to take a break during a busy day to enjoy taking my baby to lunch. I need to do that more often. As adults we get so wrapped up in the everyday life that sometimes we forget the little thing. Kids don’t care about how much money we make, what we wear or deadlines, all they care about is quality time with their parents. You never get those moments back. I even turned my phone on silent and put it in my purse to give her one-on-one attention. As a Realtor, there are so many moving parts going on with different files and I know, I’m guilty of have that darn phone near me all the time, it drive my husband batty. Nothing is that important that it couldn’t wait and I could not enjoy 30-45 minutes with my little girl uninterrupted and 100% on her!
