Plan on extra travel time to Door County this spring and summer, but take time to enjoy downtown Sturgeon Bay.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is rehabilitating the Bayview Bridge (Highway 42/57) in Sturgeon Bay, Door County This work is being done to extend the life of the bridge. The Bayview Bridge was opened in 1978.
The bridge has been closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic since March 5, 2013. During this time, traffic will be detoured through Sturgeon Bay. Please anticipate delays, especially for upcoming holiday weekends. Estimated time for repair completion is July 4, 2013, one of the busiest holiday weekends in Door County.
Peak times for travel will include May Blossom Festival Weekends, the Memorial Day weekend, and the last two weekends in June. Plan your trip accordingly.
The detours are:
- Northbound cars and trucks will be detoured through the city of Sturgeon Bay along Green Bay Road to Madison Avenue to Michigan Street to WIS 42/57.
- Southbound cars will be detoured through the city of Sturgeon Bay along Egg Harbor Road to Jefferson Street to Third Avenue to Michigan Street to Madison Avenue to Green Bay Road to WIS 42/57.
- Southbound trucks will be detoured through the city of Sturgeon Bay along Michigan Street to Madison Avenue to Green Bay Road to WIS 42/57.
Downtown businesses, especially along 3rd Avenue and Jefferson Street, are hoping that visitors through Sturgeon Bay will take time to explore downtown Sturgeon Bay's unique restaurants, shops and galleries and discover new "Door County Favorities" during this time. Plan on Extra Travel Time to Door County--The Bayview Bridge is Out.
