A Syracuse Home Stager's Top 10 Quick Fixes to Freshen Up Your Home

It doesn't take much to freshen up your home with any of these quick fixes. These small changes may seem insignificant, but they make a House Numberssurprisingly big difference in the look and feel of a home.

1. Change your house numbers

House numbers take a beating from the sun, wind, rain, and all kinds of weather. Styles change too. Changing the house numbers is a quick fix that will make visitors take notice.

2. Change the outlet and light switch covers.

You probably don't even notice your light switches and outlet covers--they're just there. They tend to get grimy, though, because they get so much use, and, let's face it, we don't clean them as often as we should. New outlet and switch covers will instantly make your home look newer.

3. Change the cabinet hardware.

The same is true for cabinet hardware. Even if they are not out of style, they tend to get grimy, especially near the stove. You can change the whole look of your kitchen or bathroom just by changing the knobs and handles.

4. Buy new decorative pillows for the sofa or bedroom.

Whether you prefer bright colors, subtle shades, or lively patterns, you can easily find dozens (or even hundreds) of choices in any home store or department store that will freshen up the look of your space. Pillows can be pricey, so you may want to consider purchasing pillow inserts and just change the covers.

5. Buy new bedding.

Who wouldn't love to have a new bedding set? Sumptuous or crisp, luxurious or casual--new bedding will perk up a tired bedroom in a flash. Layer on the pillows and put a throw or quilt at the foot to complete the new look.

6. Buy a new shower curtain, towels, or bath accessories.

In smaller spaces like the bathroom, changing a few things like the shower curtain or towels is all you need to change the entire look of the room. Fresh new towels shouldn't just be for guests--treat yourself to a stack of fluffy new ones.

7. Plant inexpensive annuals in your landscaping.

With Spring just around the corner, farm stands and nurseries will be bursting with plants and flowers. Choose one single variety, or mix it up with your favorites. Either way, your home's curb appeal will get a big boost with minimal effort if you brighten up the landscaping with color.

8. Paint your front door.

Not ready to paint or stain the entire house? You can freshen up the look just by painting your front door. All it takes is a little can of paint and a few hours to change the whole look of the entrance to your home.

9. Put up new curtains.

If you already have all the hardware in place, then all you need to do is take down the old curtains and put up new ones, then putting up new curtains  can give your room a whole new vibe in very little time. Opt for inexpensive panels that can be easily changed from season to season, or whenever you feel like a change.

10. Change the lamp shades in a room.

You don't need to keep the same lamp shades that originally came with your lamp. For a fresh new look, try changing one or two lamp shades. You'll be surprised what a difference this simple and quick fix can make.

This list is only the beginning. You can come up with hundreds of simple fixes or changes that will keep your home looking fresh and new. Have fun with it and enjoy helping your home evolve one little change at a time.

These are EXCELLENT tips, Janelle!  Last week I told a seller to take down the house numbers, then I  whipped out my trusty can of black spray paint ( I keep one in my tool kit!), sprayed, and he put them back up as soon as they were dry.  Easy peasy.
