Pineapples are good and healthy food

There are some foods that do not look appealing at all.  In fact when you see them, you wonder who was the first brave person who thought of eating them.

Pineapples are one of those foods.  They work well in an assortment of recipes.

I recently received an email from a friend that illustrated the importance of pineapples in our diet.

Highlights from that email are below:

Did you know that the pineapple stops ripening as soon as it is harvested?  No special storage will make any difference.

You should choose your fruit by the smell.  It should smell fresh and tropical.

If you cult the top off and plant it, it will grow much like a sweet potato will.

It is the only eatable bromeliad.

Pineapple is said to help with easing digestion, arthritis, and sinusitis.  The juice will also aid in ridding your body of intestinal worms.

The fruit is high in manganese which helps in the development of strong bones and connective tissues.  Especially helpful in older adults whose bones become brittle with age.

It is thought to help reduce inflammation and swelling.

Fresh pineapple is good for those suffering from colds because it helps cut or reduce mucous.

If that is not enough to make you a pineapple lover, consider that it is known to discourage blot clots...and it also discourages plaque in the mouth.

The pleasant taste is an extra benefit.

We frequently soak shrimp in pineapple juice before grilling them.  Just one of many beneficial foods that make eating healthy easy...

All those reasons sound good to me - I have always loved pineapple.  I'm intrigued by the idea of marinating shrimp in pineapple juice.
