Colorado Springs Utilities to enforce Water Restrictions April 1.
In light of an upcoming winter storm this weekend, its hard to imagine Colorado Springs is experiencing one of its worst back-to-back drought stricken years in its history.
In 2002, weather forecasters commented that the incredible drought conditions we suffered were the type of patterns that happen once every century. However recently, Mother Nature has proven to be anything but predictable.
Now, city-owned Colorado Springs Utilities has announced water levels in our mountain reservoirs are less than 50 percent capacity. Last year at the same time, we were at 71 percent.
The U.S. Drought Monitor below shows how the state of Colorado is in a moderate to exceptional drought this year.

This comes as extremely sobering news, in light of last year’s heat-stricken summer and our city’s devastating Waldo Canyon Fire. 346 homes were burned, and 2 lives were lost last June.
Our semi-arid climate and frequent high wind conditions are ripening this spring to be a parched, hot season. Please take heed and adhere to the twice a week watering restriction recommended on April 1 by Colorado Springs Utilities. Its a small sacrifice to make for such a precious natural resource.
