Festival of the West

Chuck wagon teams will cook beef, beans, bread, potatoes and a fruit cobbler in the style of 1880’s cattle drives.  Vistors to this Western themed festival also can take Dutch-oven cooking classes, purchase bbq and visit the whiskey-tasting and beer-saloon tents.  Chuck wagon meal is an additional $10.  County singer Chris Cagle will perform Saturday, tickets to that concert are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

Details:  Thursday-Sunday, Mrcha 21-24.  Westworld of Scottsdale, 16601 N Pima Rd.  $16 per day, $10 per day for ages 5-12, free for age 4 and younger.

 

Rock the Zoo

Rock the Zoo features live music from local bands, beverage sampling, food tasting in the VIP Lounge, food for sale from Valley food trucks, the Rockin’ Raffle and other exciting activities all in the picturesque setting of the Phoenix Zoo.

All proceeds benefit the non-profit Phoenix Zoo and help them to care for the more than 1100 animals in their collection.

Details:  7pm-11pm, General Admission $40 members, $50 Non-members.  Phoenix Zoo, 455 N Galvin Parkway, Phoenix

Great American BBQ and Beer Festival

More than 2 dozen bbq teams, including Honey Bear’s, Porkopolis and Tom’s will serve pork ribs, pulled pork, brisket and chicken, and breweries will pour craft beers.

Contests such as pie-eating and bratwurst-eating competitions will be held and a dozen bands will perform.

Details:  Noon-10p.m. Saturday, March 23rd.  $10, free for age 12 and younger.  Chandler Park, 3 S. Arizona Ave.

 

Arizona Dragon Boat Festival

Teams of paddlers from the U.S. China, Canada and other countries will race dragon boats on Tempe Town Lake.  The festival includes traditional Chinese cuisine, live entertainment and merchandise vendors.

Details:  8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24.  Tempe Town Lake, Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway.  Free for spectators.

Glendale Folk and Heritage Festival

Enjoy more than 150 performers featuring everything from folk and bluegrass music to cowboy poetry and storytelling or participate in a hands-on workshop. Bring your instrument and join in a musical jam with others or just bring the family to enjoy the rich music and entertainment, historic home tours and food vendors. Free admission!

Details:  Sahuaro Ranch Park Historic Area, 9802 N 59th Ave., Glendale AZ  10a.m-5p.m.

 

Cave Creek Fiesta Days

This annual event will take place this weekend.  Events such as bull riding, team roping, barrel racing and steer wrestling will take place all weekend long.

Details:  Friday-Sunday, Memorial Arena Rodeo Grounds, 37201 N 28th St, Cave Creek.  $12, $15-$18 for reserved seating.
