Solar energy in Palm Springs? Seems like a no-brainer!

We have done some research on adding solar panels to our home here.  They actually have a lottery now to determine who receives incentive dollars for installing the units.  This can greatly offset the cost of solar installation.  I agree that solar energy in Palm Springs makes sense- but I wish that it was more affordable to convert your existing unit.

la quinta cove I have lived in the Palm Springs Valley for about 30 years now. Year round for the last 12 years, and summers here are hot hot hot! Why don't we have more solar? I believe the solar tide is changing. It used to be very expensive for the installation and maintenance of solar panels. Cost alone canceled the option for many many homeowners. New solar projects are being proposed, land purchased or leased, environmental studies completed, and hopefully contracts being put into place to supply solar energy for our entire desert Valley.

The eastern end of our Valley is the logical location for the miles of solar panels needed to generate the energy required for Palm Springs Valley homes .Eastern meaning north of Highway 10 in the Joshua tree area ,and E. Down Old Hwy. 86 in the Salton Sea and Niland areas. Most of us locals see it as an inevitable addition to the future of housing in the Valley .

There are still plenty of kinks to be worked out, namely costs for installation and maintenance ,the securing of long-term energy contracts ,and making the solar installation process affordable for homeowners at all price points, but if are going to have a solar revolution, doesn't it make sense that it would be in the California desert? I think so.
