What Smells Can Help Sell Your Home?
There is nothing worse than walking into a home and the first thing you notice is the smell of pets, cigarette smoke or strong food smells. These smells stay in your carpet, curtains, furniture and even walls. Smells that may not bother you can be a major turn off to a buyer!
If your home is vacant, clean the home well and have the carpets professionally cleaned. Wash down all the walls with a cleaning product such as lemon or pine scented.
If you still are living in your home while it is on the market, have your carpets and furniture professionally cleaned if possible. Take down and wash your curtains and bedding. Don’t forget the closets with the stinky shoes, use odor eaters or Fabreze. As far as litter boxes, keep them emptied daily and use a cat litter deodorizer, such as Arm & Hammer. This goes for baby diaper pails as well, empty them daily. You can use air fresheners throughout the home, but I would recommend not using strong or multiple scents. Avoid cooking foods that create strong odors, especially when you have a showing scheduled.
Whenever possible, open all the windows and turn on fans to get the air circulating!
The best scents to choose from are apple, cinnamon, vanilla, lavender and lemon. I like to boil water with a few slices of lemon and lime. I also run a few slices of lemon through the garbage disposal.
The best smell is always a clean house smell!
