Staging a Home with Small Children

Just saying those words outloud can make anyone's blood pressure rise. How on earth can you live in a staged home with children and keep it show ready?

A big key is to have storage containers handy to stash daily playtime toys and games. And, the storage containers themselves don't need to find another home if you use something that's attractive as well as functional. Here's some examples of storage ottomans and benches from www.Target.com :

5 Piece Times Square Storage Ottoman Quick Information

Round Tufted Storage Ottoman - Gold Quick Information

Threshold™ Traditional Tufted Storage Ottoman Bench with Nailheads - Black Quick Information

Seville Rush Cube Storage Ottoman - Mocha Quick InformationSheridan Leather 4 Piece Double Storage Ottoman with Tray - Black Quick Information

If your young kiddos like hanging out in the living room with you, these are the type of pieces you need to corrale those stray pretty ponies and super heroes.

There's no question it is inconvenient to list your home with little ones. Try to keep up with the mess daily to minimize the stress.

For a little comic relief, here's a blogger who completely relates:

Bravo! Great ideas Kim, storage is key with little children and these pieces look really great as tables or ottomans.

Good information. I was thinking along the lines of child proofing a home but this is probably more challenging!

OMG - the crappy pictures blog is too funny!  There are so many good-looking storage alternatives out there - and Target is a great resource!

Hi Joanna, it really is key, and most folks have the open baskets sitting around...this doesn't help the visual appeal of the room either. It needs to be closed storage, or out of sight.

Thanks Sharon, and wouldn't it be nice if they liked putting it away in a fun hiding spot?

Good morning, Gary. That's another great idea for a post!

The crappy pictures blog link is hysterical - don't miss clicking on it.

Good morning Kim -

I totally agree as someone that has been there done that (selling a home with kids).  Keep handy containers and try to stay one step in front of the pick up project.  A great time to teach the kids how to pick up themselves.  It will be a bonus when the family moves into the new home and the kids will be proud of and know how to take care of the new home.  Win - Win.

Kim, I've helped many young families find inovative ways to live while selling. Ottomans come in so many shapes now it's great. I've also had to resort to just tucking the toy bin under an end table LOL,

Kim,  Excellent solution.  I go into so many homes where the toys are just stuffed in the corner.  I always tell my sellers they still need to lvie their lives and should find some kind of storage to keep things in.  This is a great idea.
