When I listen to people talk about America and her future, most I hear, are dismal at best. And I'm talking about good Christian people, my heathen, non-believing friends have more hope and encouraging words to say about our future than my Christian friends do. This is mind boggling to me and Bonnie. We serve the Hope of Israel, the greatest King to ever reign or will ever reign. We should have hope! We should be the beacon of hope!
Have you ever heard it said that if God doesn't judge (punish) America that He'll have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah? I hear many believers saying this, but that is of the old covenant thinking. We live under a new covenant where if God punished or judged America, He'd have to apologize to His only beloved son, Jesus! He died for that... remember? And He doesn't plan on doing it again.
Remember the time that the disciples were talking about a people group who were giving them trouble and asked Jesus should they call down fire and brimstone to wipe them out? Jesus rebuked them and said they did not know what Spirit they were of.
Think of these things (that are of good report). Do minorities, most especially African Americans, have it better today in America than they did 50 years ago? 100 years ago? 150? Do women have a better life in America now than they did 100 years ago? Do we all have life better than our forefathers from 100 years ago? The easy answer to all these questions is a simple yes, of course. Do we still have problems? Absolutely but overall life is better.
Have you ever been on a long flight and hear people complain about sore backs, or swollen feet and ankles or how cramped the seats were? How about hearing complaints of how long the security lines were or how long it took to get the baggage out or how long of a wait for a cab?? Well ask a person who rode a stage coach or covered wagon for weeks to cross this country back 150 years ago if they would mind the 5 hour flight and all it's inconveniences. What do you think they would say?
There are many who cry about the Christian persecution coming from our government these days right here in America. There are reports of attacks upon our freedoms of speech, of gun ownership, taxes and many other complaints I hear. First thing we need to do is turn off Fox news... or at least know they are extremely biased, just as CNN and CNBC and the other networks are biased for the other side. They have been successful at dividing and conquering. It has led to total discord in our government and we have the power to just say no. Does the news of the day ever really change what you do in your daily life? Maybe the weather does, but outside of that, I would say it doesn't. At least not for the positive. What is might do is cause you to make decisions based in fear. We were not given a spirit of fear but of love.
Did you know that when the Christian church is persecuted is when it grows exponentially? Did you know that there are many Chinese Christians in a vast underground church in China praying for America to experience persecution right now? It's not because they hate us but because they love Jesus and thus love us and want what's best for us. They know first hand how horrible it is to live under persecution but how wonderful it makes their walk with the Lord. They see the spiritual problems we have here in America and know that if we have more persecution here, we'll come to our knees more and then experience life and more abundantly while being more like Jesus to others.
In conclusion, ask yourself one question: Are we better off than our parents?... our grandparents today? Are our children better off than we were? I believe the answers will surprise you. If they don't I would highly recommend standing on your knees for awhile... it's the posture where you stand the tallest.
