“I hear there is a lot of crime near Fort Bragg, NC!” Concerns about the crime in our Fayetteville and 
Fort Bragg area, understandably, is right up there with the concerns about school districts, when I meet someone new to the area. Family safety is the number one concern for almost everyone I speak with looking for a home! Whether it is a soldier who has to leave for deployment or training, or a civilian who travels for work, no one should not have to worry about whether our family is safe back home.
Whether you intend on renting or buying a home in the area, it is important to do some research on the areas and communities.
When I moved here 8 years ago from Texas, I knew nothing of the area. I was not a Real Estate Agent at the time. My Real Estate Agent told us that he would show us homes in the “best school district”. I really do like the schools that my children are in, although, the crime here has been an issue. I’m sure, as with any new neighborhood in the area, we have had our fair share of home and car break-ins.
Obviously, there are going to be some areas worse than others. There are many gates communities in the area, some with manned gates and security guards and some with electric gates, that may prove to have lower crime rates. Many neighborhoods also have active neighborhood watch programs.
Although I cannot guarantee that crime will not happen in your neighborhood, there are things that you can do to deter them from happening to you. Just to name a few things, I use a monitored security system with video cameras, motion lights and a very large mean dog!
