VITEMA- The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Authority, the entity that notifies us of hazardous spills, hurricanes and earthquakes; sent out an e-mail this evening warning resident there will be seven cruise ships in port in St. Thomas tomorrow. They noted we should use extreme caution around tourist attractions.

The average cruise ship arriving in St. Thomas, holds somewhere around  5,000 people, some more. The general population of St. Thomas is usually 56,000 people, Which means that our population will increase by about 60% for about 8 hours. Wow, we are excited to see you all, I hope each person has a memorable time. And we are certainly proud we remain the most popular cruise ship destination in the Caribbean.

For those of us who have to get around the island of St. Thomas, to events like, open houses, it is time to "head behind the hill". Meaning, don't go downtown if you can help it.

I will let you know how it goes.

Very interesting, Tanya.  We feel the same way during summer season near the beaches of Lake Erie.

BTW We saw six ships docked in Cozemel, Mexico recently.  So many northerners trying to escape the cold and snow. We still have snow in the forecast tonight & tomoorow.

Tanya, I had to chuckle, it is spring break and everyone from the North is visiting destination places like Naples and St. Thomas, vacationing and cursing looking for a break and some sunshine!

The day went without a hitch. I did not make it to all of the open houses but that had nothing to do with the number of ships in but my personal schedule.  I did not go down to check my mail box as that would have entailed hitting the waterfront where most of the cruisers hang out. I will make it a priority tomorrow.

There were only about 20,000 people who came in on the ships today ( I over estimated the capacity of some of the ships. Actually we are well equiped to accommodate a lot more people.

A good time was had by all!
