Arizona “Staycation” destinations for summer

Arizona is such a beautiful state – and even with the summer heat – we are lucky to live here.  There is so much to do around the state during all seasons.  Being an Arizona native, I have been fortunate enough to travel around the state quite a bit.  When we want to take a road trip or small vacation, I think back to my childhood and come up with some favorite places to take my family.

Lake Powell is one of the places I like the best.  It is majestic with its beautiful cliffs and scenery – a photographer’s paradise.  Camping, boating, water skiing, swimming and fishing are activities that can be enjoyed here.  Renting a houseboat is a great experience with the family too.  Make sure that this is planned because you will have to be placed on a waiting list.

Another area that I recommend is the White Mountains.  Greer, Pinetop, Lakeside and Show Low are all beautiful towns to stay in.  Antique shopping, fishing, hunting and hiking are just some of the activities that this area has to offer.  Sunrise Ski Resort is a nice place to visit.  The ski lift is open to ride to the top of the mountain where the view is amazing.  You can ride your mountain bike on the ski trails too for a great work out.

Patagonia is another favorite of mine. Who would ever believe there is such a beautiful wine country in Arizona.  Visiting wineries, hiking, camping and exploring are activities that are popular in the area. This is a nice place to just lose yourself in the quiet beauty and history of the southwest.
