Be a Tourist in Your Town!
How often are you a tourist in your town or state? Once upon a time, I was a kid growing up in Illinois. My family used to fly to Colorado to go skiing for Spring Break every year.
Now I am no longer a kid, and I have a kid of my own... and I'm lucky enough to live in Colorado! Funny that now we don't usually fly anywhere for Spring Break. But we also don't spend an entire week on the slopes. It is way too easy to take it for granted that we have the mountains almost in our back yard. So I make a point of taking my kiddo up there. Yesterday, we went to Copper Mountain. The weather was beautiful, and they'rve gotten 5 inches of new snow since yesterday.
I remember coming here for college and meeting people who had grown up in Colorado, but had never been skiing. I thought it was ludicrous! Now, I get it. It is much easier to go about your daily life and do those mundane tasks that we always do. But I am not going to do that!
The same goes for living near the beach, national forests, theater districts, you name it. Get out there and be a tourist in your town!
