CITY OF MCKINNEY HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOOD

IMPROVEMENT ZONE TAX EXEMPTION

PROGRAM

YOU MAY QUALIFY FOR TAX EXEMPTIONS

All homeowners located in the Historic Neighborhood Improvement Zone (HNIZ)

could possibly receive tax exemptions on City taxes for 15 years if they qualify

for one of the three levels outlined under the new HNIZ ordinance.

PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM

To encourage the maintenance, rehabilitation, and preservation of the City's

unique and historic neighborhoods by providing tax exemptions to homeowners

who qualify.

APPLICATION

To participate in the program, contact the Historic Preservation Officer for the

City of McKinney or go online to see how you can qualify for the tax exemption

program. In order to receive a tax exemption work must be pre-qualified by the

Historic Preservation Officer. Any work not pre-qualified or work done prior to

application is not eligible for a tax exemption.

EXAMPLE

A homeowner makes $10,000 in verified improvements to qualify for the 50% tax

exemption. If the house is worth $200,000 the homeowner would save $8,820 in

City taxes over the next 15 years (assuming the value and tax rate do not

change).

HOWDY! Thanks for the info, as a native Texan, I like to know what's going on in Tarrant County and surrounding areas, especially historic homes. I sell in Granbury also and I love Texas history and it's fabulous historical homes.
