Almost time to shut down the wood stoves.

Weather is warming up and burning wood will soon stop.

For some, burning now makes the house to warm.

But...there are a few things to remember when shutting down your wood stove.

Clean it!!!!

Get all the ashes out of the fire box and then I put a layer of oil or some other kind of petroleum product on all the walls of the fire box.  It helps to stop the rust.

Clean all the pipes and the chimney.

Take notes as to the condition of the piping.  Do any repairs now including replacing of the pipes.  This will ensure you are ready to go in the fall and you won't have any issue you forgot about.

Prevention is the key right now...take the time!!!

We haven't had a fire for three nights, now. But there will still be the occasion for a fire or two before spring is in full swing. Great information, William.

Good advice William. I'm more than ready to quit burning the wood stove for the summer - I'm tired of dragging the wood in and tired of vacuuming up the mess. And it IS getting too warm to leave it burning all day. (Thank goodness!)

I can not use my wood stove any longer, my Husband passed away. I can no longer operate it. What do I need to do to close it down?
