High Water Bills

High water bills are directly related to leaking faucets in the house.

Water leaks – even the smallest – are often the cause of high water bills.

You can find out if you have a leak in your home, by getting to know your water meter.

  1. Make sure no water is being used inside or outside of your home
  2. Remember to shut off automatic pool filters, sink faucets, washers and dishwashers
  3. Find your water meter (usually found in the basement)
  4. Look at the low flow indicator, as shown below.

The low flow indicator will move counter clockwise whenever water is passing through the meter. If either the low flow indicator or the sweep hand is moving when you believe no water is being used in your home, you may have a leak.

If your meter doesn't have a flow indicator, you monitor the sweep hand on the register to indicate water loss.

If you have a leak, start by looking at areas where the most common household leaks occur.
