Since 1974, when I got my first job as a telemarketer for real estate, I have been in love with the spirit of real estate agents. There is something indescribable about that spirit. A broker cannot detect whether an individual has what it takes to fit into this world of representing clients in their real estate transactions. Only the test of time can determine if someone has a big enough heart to "belong".
One thing is certain, the "revolving door" of licensing will be a continuing issue. Those that get into real estate to make lots of money may remain around for a while. But in markets that are sufferring right now, a cleansing is going on right now. Unfortunately, the hopes and dreams of many are being dashed because the money is no longer easy to make...the clients are being particular about who represents them...the money they made in the past few years is running out.
Active Rain is a showplace for those that will remain. Through the easy times and the hard times, we will see people with a big heart and a genuine interest in others find a way to remain in this rewarding career. They will be rewarded with the joy of helping others, even when the monetary compensation does not feel like it is worth the actual hours worked. A good real estate agent is a true rare breed indeed.
Luckily, the market in The Woodlands, Texas has not suffered much. The market overall was about 8% off in 2007 - yet average sales prices rose during the same period. That is not a bad market. But it will be enough to cause a few agents to find "a REAL job".
I say all this about good real estate agents in general in order to show my appreciation to one agent specifically. Georgina Hunter gave me a personal demonstraton of her big caring heart last night. When she noticed that I had few comments on my Localism posts, she left a comment offering her help. Gratefully, I asked for that help and asked how to do it. She offered to call me at MY convenience. Since she is in Hawaii and I am in Texas, we had a 4 hour difference in time. That allowed me to finish my busy day in real estate and connect with her call at 8pm central time.
Because of her help, I now have a post about Market Street, The Woodlands with a photo. I have 150 new points from posting photos on Localism. I have a photo in my profile that doesn't look odd. And I am slowly but surely learning how to use the rain to my advantage. The link with her name above will allow you to learn more about this wonderfully generous soul...and I am very grateful.
