Who cares about features? Go for the Called Shot instead..888 of them!

I'm also sick of hearing about who gets featured/who doesn't.  Of course at times, I find it annoying (who doesn't?  Admit it!).  And, of course I've had many a post that should have been featured (in my opinion) but wasn't. (Incidentally, I've also had ones featured that should not have been).  Oh well, I guess it balances out.

While getting featured is sometimes fun and exciting, at other times, it's just time consuming. Features don't bring in the business (at least not directly).  Good blogging/SEO and good relationships bring in the business.

But, I've given up on trying to figure out the "formula."  Let's just admit that there isn't one.  It's subjective.  It's good, but not perfect.  It never was, never will be...and most importantly, we can't control it.

..............so stop wasting time wondering about it or griping, etc.  Instead, do something more productive....Try calling a shot!  You have way more control of that.  If you see a great post, suggest it!  (hit the brown suggest button at the top).  You can suggest up to 5 a day.  And, you have a much better chance on this...and it feels great.

I love seeing posts that I've suggested make the leaderboard.  Sometimes, I don't even comment, but if I suggest it, I feel that I've helped the person.  Collectively, if we all do this, it should result in a higher quality posts and more diversity of those being featured.

So far, I have 888 Called Shots.  I'm working my way up to 1,000.  Won't you join me in this quest?

Debbie, yikes, you are very busy calling shots in addition to all the blogging you do! How do you find itme to work :)
I know you do work, because your business is booming. There is no formua to Features. And you're right, Features don't pay your salary, but great SEO blogging can.

Debbie - That is a lot of called shots.  Either you've figured out the formula or you just like good posts.

Tanya - Oh sorry, I should have explained.  When you suggest a post and it gets featured, it's a "called shot."

Mark - Thx and glad to hear that.

Joan - I completely agree.  And many times, the feature is just a distraction.

John - Normally the brown suggest button is there (right next to green reblog button).  But, this one is now featured, so it's no longer there.

Alan - LOL.  Yes, I suppose so.

Sussie - Good for you, and yes, I think we are.

Kathy - Yes, it's odd sometimes how that happens. You've provided a great tool as well to help others get more exposure.

Sharon - Exactly!  Suggesting by the way doesn't take much time at all.  It's very quick/easy.  I'm just doing it as I'm reading/commenting.

Christine - LOL...some are predictable.

Called shots mean you have a good eye for quality. I respect that in a person!

That's my feeling exactly.  I don't write for features, but SEO and the fun of helping to teach!  And when I see'em good I suggest'em good!

Debbie that was an excellent post because you said what I was thinking but did not care enough to write about.

Tony Robbins once said..."If you are unhappy with life, lower your expectations..."  (If you think your post should be a feature...and isn't?)

Debbie good for you for making such a great suggestion!  This is a great way for newbie posts to hit the featured board and others who don't get up there as well!

Based on the comments, it seems a post explaining "called shots" is in order, LOL!  I can't believe you have 888 of them...I didn't even know how many I had so I went and checked.  I laughed when I saw I only have 55.  LOL!  I guess I need to start calling more shots.

I agree - called shots are just more fun, because they're helping someone ELSE! I have 41 of 'em, and I appreciate the reminder to go out there and look for more great posts to suggest. You never know when you might be the one to discover the next great blogger :)

This is a place I need to spend more time.  I've onl got a few "called shots" and while I do recommend quite a few posts, I never seem to remember the recommend button on a daily basis.

Mike & Eve - THx so much.  Yes, it's so easy to get trapped, but this is a more positive outlook.

Debra - Yes, we all have a say...we can all suggest, even newbies and veterans.

Marc - Excellent.  Glad I was able to share something new and you can join us in this quest.

Sharon - Yes, I think so.  You know, now they have this hidden and you need to click to "see more" so it's a bit less obvious.

John - Excellent.  Glad to hear that.

Richie - I'm glad you will participate, too.

Mary Elizabeth - Yes, it is really is more fun helping someone else, and glad you will suggest some more.

Holy Cow! 888 Called Shots is simply amazing -- it must be a record on AR.  Thanks for the reminder to do this more often.  Since the called shot number isn't visible on our home page without clicking on something to bring it up, I'd kind of forgotten about it.  Now my enthusiasm is renewed, so thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Debbie -- I agree!   Great posts(obviously very subjectively) I've written haven't been featured while others not nearly as great have been -- oh well as you say it all works out.   888 suggested features is an incredible number and a very lucky one in some cultures too...I'm in the mid 300s at this point -- obviously I've been slacking off in the suggest department or I need to hone my skills.

Hi Debbie, thank you for the great explanation!  I did not know what a called shot was until I did a search and found your blog.  I only have one called shot but not, I am excited to do more -- thanks for the inspiration!
