There several things you can do within a day just miles from Amarillo, TX. Therefore, I have found some great day trips that you and your family may enjoy.

You’ll find that one museum shows the history of the West’s iconic fencing, while the other takes you down memory lane of Route 66. This super museum is a non-profit museum and is mostly staffed by volunteers. It is completely funded by donations, merchandise sales and membership dues.
Everyone comes to see the Route 66 Museum, but they are always surprised by the abundant barbed wire. You will find the biggest collection of barbed wire and fencing tools in the world at the museum. You can also see displays of Native American statues, covered wagon and snakes that are all made of barbed wire.
People from all over the world donate barbed wire so the museum can feature it. There have been people from 28 different countries who have come to visit the museum. Best of all, it’s free.
Photo Courtesy of Barhbar.comBar H Working Dude Ranch – The ranch offers horseback riding, chuck wagon dinners and more. During the 1930s, the grandfather of Frank Hommel bought the ranch. By the 1990s, Hommel started looking for other things the ranch could be used for, besides cattle. After seeing a magazine article about dude ranches, he became interested.
He started the dude ranch by serving chuck wagon meals, he then began hosting guests, offering hunting, horseback riding, and lodging. Now, each April, you can get a rib eye meal and a cowboy breakfast on the ranch. Everything is cooked outside in dutch ovens mover mesquite fires.
There are around 30 horses for guests to ride. And, in the first week of May, you can go along for a roundup. You will get to work the cattle, eat more chuck wagon meals and stay in tents. It’s a favorite among many people who visit the ranch each year.
