Do we "Live to work" or "work to live"?

This should be something that we think about.  It's Friday and I'm in my office thinking about life.  Do I "live to work"?  Like most of us, I HAVE to work in order to make money, provide for my family, etc. If I were independently wealthy, I wouldn't be blogging right now.  Well, maybe not about mortgages.  So, I "WORK TO LIVE".  It's the other side of the coin.

The reality, though, is that I really like what I do. I've tailored my work life to coincide as much with my "Life" life as much as I can.  I spent ten years working as a financial advisor and I saw so many people trudging through life, putting "retirement" on a pedastal.  I was guilty of that as well.  There has to be a balance.  Right now, I surround myself with people who are happy, balancing their lives as much as possible...I'm integrating my work life with my wife's life as much as possible.  I've made my work schedule as flexible as possible to get my job done and to stay connected to my kids and wife...

For this reason, I love the niche that I've been carving out for myself for the past 10 years.  Fishing and hunting is hobby, a lifestyle, a recreational activity, an obsession, and something to share with your family and friends.  Nothing beats the feeling of coming home after a fishing trip with a cooler full, not empty!  Full of fish.  Inviting 20 friends over for an ad-hoc fish fry could be the best way to spend a weekend.  Talking around a fire in the late fall or early winter with a group of friends and talking about what happened on a hunt....you realize that hunting is NOT about the kill, but rather the experience in the woods. (three years hunting in Plymouth and nothing to "show" for it...but great experiences each time out there.)

I could ramble all day; time to shuffle some paperwork.  Get out there, find something you love to do, share it with other people, and see if you can't combine it with "work".  It doesn't feel like work anymore, does it?

So, the reality is that providing financing for home purchases and refinances isn't sexy.  It isn't glamorous.  I haven't made any "must see" videos of me talking with customers.  It is rewarding, though.  And since I like talking and listening to people...it's educational and it makes us all better people..

See you around, smiling. I work and I live.  Sometimes I don't know the difference between the two.  In a good way!

Town or Country, in Colorado, we do it all.

Most of the time my work is fun, but there are always bad times in whatever we do.  But as long as the good  significantly out weighs the bad, I plan to keep doing what I'm doing!

Having a cowboy hat on says good times aren't far away. It's an attitude...maybe the cowboy hat is the "middle of the country" version of the Hawaiian shirt?
