I can understand the desire to be near the city but not bound by its trappings. Great Kills sounds like a way to escape the rat race but close enough to join the race as needed!
Ken.. Great Kills gives the best of both worlds. Near the city, but still have the flavor of the country where you can relax and get to know your neighbors.

Great Kills sounds like a wonderful place for families Ken. We just watched a movie last night called Staten Island (you know we immediately thought of you when we saw the title). The movie wasn't much unfortunately but we really enjoyed the first two minutes as it described all about living on Staten Island.
