Shields Date Garden is a MUST-DO when visiting the Palm Springs area. Floyd and Bessie Shields started their date farm and business back in 1924 and it has become a thriving business and a famous tourist stop.
Floyd created a film to educate visitors about the the date growing process and called it 'The Romance and Sex-Life of a Date'... a pretty racy and eye-catching title for the time. Shields is still in the same location, with the same small theatre featuring a continuous loop.
You can purchase numerous types of dates at Shields, many that are grown exclusively at Shields. You can sample the many varieties and also have them ship your dates home, or to family and friends.
Shields has a cafe behind the original store which serves breakfast and lunch!
So when you visit Shields, step up to the counter and order a date shake, and then head on back to the theatre to learn about the date farming, fertilizing, and
