Hi Debbie, I nearly broke my neck slipping down hardwood steps in sock feet. Having no carpet runner is dangerous for my health.
Wow, you've just provided more information on carpet runners than I knew existed. We have the wood steps and I can relate to how slippery they can be. However, given that we also have wood at the bottom floor I hadn't thought carpet runners would "work" since how would it"end?" Yet, one of your photos shows a nice, neat, termination at the bottom of the stair riser. Very simple and very clean.
I may just have to rethink a carpet runner as a good option.
Debbie, thank you for sharing this very informative blog about carpet runners.... I had no idea.
If I had stairs in our home we would have to install carpet runner for our dog's and no children but it would be a very good investment for safety.
I suggested this because it's full of valuable information and deserves a gold star in my opinion.
Christine - Oh yes, best to fix the step too. That can be complicated work though.
Debbie - Yes, indeed. Glad you are okay.
Mark - So glad the pictures helped. Yes, they definitely work, esp when there is wood on both floors.
Bob - Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. That's great that you have everything on one level.
Great carpet runner advice for all homeowners to heed in Bedford NY and beyond, Debbie.
Good morning Debbie. You are so good and so thorough. This blog is just filled with terrific information and illustrative pictures. Great job: suggested.
I never would have thought that runners would be used because of dogs. Very interesting!Have a great end to your day!

You reminded me....we desperately need a new runner on our stairs. I really like what we have but it is worn. But before we get the runner...one of the stairs is broken....need a new step or to replace the hardwood on the step. Need to call one of your colleagues in the area....when I am actually home for more than a minute so i have time to make a phone call!
