The Day After Closing

Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek Mountain closed for the season yesterday.  Closing Day revellers found 12" to 15" of new snow and crystal clear blue skies - until 11:00am.  Then, near blizzard conditions closed the back bowls and drove many off the mountain.  This is a typical closing day reminicent of 18 of 20 past closing days.  We'll most likely have FEET of new snow now through May - another reason you won't find many Locals in the office for awhile.  The beach sounds pretty good right now!

Maybe they should extend the season a few more days...or weeks! I much prefer the warm weather; sandy beaches and warm water are for me.

Visibility of 50 or 100 yards?

Hi John,

I was thinking the same thing as Than so it is great that they decided to reopen for the weekend. Perhaps everyone will have an extremely successful season due to the extended weekend. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful white, snowy picture.

I love the picture of the Gore Range on your profile.  Have you ever explored them with Google Earth?
