Spring Storms are Bringing Hope for Drought Relief to Western Colorado. Our Colorado weather can be very unpredictable. Just when we thought spring was here, winter has struck again. This is good news for the high country, though. The latest is a second in a series of storms.
Snow and moisture levels are being closely watched in Colorado's high country. Everyone is prepared for summer drought conditions and a cut back on irrigation water. For people in an area that relies heavily on agriculture, these spring storms are a welcome sight.
The latest spring storm arrived early Monday morning and is dropping a lot of snow in the mountains and rain in the lower elevations. The spring storms will also help keep the snow and moisture in the high country longer than if the weather warms up right away and the water starts to run off the mountains before the growing season starts.
In Between the spring storms, Western Colorado is experiencing mild weather. This is great as long as the weather doesn't warm up too much and cause a lot of snow to melt and run off prematurely.
All of Colorado is concerned about lower snow packs. Lower snow levels mean less water in the rivers for agriculture, fishing, rafting and other fun outdoor activities. This latest storm is covering a good portion of the state and it brings hope for some much needed drought relief.
