Why We Support Boston : The Heroes

Boston, we support you.

I'm not a runner.

I don't live in Boston. (in fact, I've never even been there)

But one thing I know is when something like this happens, the True Americans will support.

I reflected on these runners first. The amazing woSupport Bostonrk and dedication they have put forth for months, or even years, to participate in such an incredible test of the human mind and body. The sacrifices that athlete made. The time they have devoted to training.

And they all had support.

Support from the people who were standing on the sidewalks cheering them on. Support from family and friends back home who kept up with their life-changing event. Support from strangers watching on TV.

And then when It happened, those who were supporting all of a sudden needed support.

The television shows me heroes coming from every part of the street to support. Boston police and emergency services did what they have been trained to do (but I'm sure when it's time to use that training, something unknown inside kicks in). Heroes emerged from spectators who were there to support an athlete, but now are turning to support one another in the crowd.

The news told me that as the day went on, Boston residents were opening their homes to strangers to help support them in their unplanned extended stay. I think of the bonds that will form between people that never would have met each other if it were not for this Event. Forever tied together and there to support each other.

Despite the actions to precipitate this which I will never understand, it makes me proud to see such amazing people become heroes when the moment calls them. Heroes that were just a normal person when they woke up, but when faced with these unbelievable moments, they rise to become something else. Something better. Something that requires honor and reverence.

Thank you to the heroes in that city, as well as my friends and family who wear a badge who are heroes every day. And to the heroes who step up when them moment calls them, we support you.

And to the brave athletes who trained so hard, and face many emotions including disappointment, anger, disgust... we look to you for strength in the example you set to challenge ourselves. We support you.

And to the families of victims, not knowing that such an innocent event would change the course of your lives, we support you.

Boston, we support you.

Nice post to honor all of those affected by this terrible tragedy. Every cloud truly does have a silver lining and the light came through in the eyes of those who offered help.

Jay,  As a former runner and one who has many friends that run in marathons and distance races, the people who did this picked the wrong target to deter the human spirit. Marathoner's define the human spirit and have character and determination that lives at their core!  Kudos for great efforts put forth by the people of Boston in the aftermath!           Long Live the Boston Marathon
