Longboat Key Triathlon and Duathlon Offer Competition, Fun and Sun

Retirees, couples, and families relocate or visit every year to enjoy the many shopping opportunities, fine dining options, and not to mention Longboat Key's luxury homes along its 11-mile stretch of paradise. Longboat Key is ideal for anyone leading an active lifestyle since swimming, fishing, boating, bicycling, golf, and tennis opportunities are all close by. Much of the action on the island takes place at the renowned Longboat Key Club & Resort.

Twice a year, in the spring and fall, the Longboat Key Club & Resort hosts the Longboat Key Triathlon & Duathlon Race Series. The series has been around for four years now and includes a pair of exciting events. This year, the Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon Distance Race will be held on Sunday, May 5, and the International Triathlon & Duathlon Distance Race will be conducted on Sunday, October 20.

Registration for the Sprint Race in May is $75 for the Duathlon (a 1-mile run, 12-mile bike ride, and 3-mile run) and $80 for the Triathlon (a quarter-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride, and 3-mile run). Registration for the International Race in October is $110 for the Duathlon (a 2-mile run, a 20-mile bike ride, and 5-mile run) and $120 for the Triathlon (a half-mile swim, 20-mile bike ride, and 5-mile run). Discounts are available for early registrations. Registration fees are not refundable but may be rolled over up to 2 weeks before each event. Anyone hoping to win a Series Award must participate in both events.

Special room packages are available at the Longboat Key Club & Resort for both events. Over 400 racers and fans were part of last year’s races, and even more are expected to show up this year to enjoy not only the races, but also the world-class amenities of the Longboat Key Club and the fabulous parties at the conclusion of both races. A delicious buffet is offered at the awards ceremonies and even if you don’t race, the Longboat Key Triathlon & Duathlon Race Series provides spectators with 2 exciting days in the great Florida sun.
