There is an abundance of things to do in Carlsbad, particularly given the terrific weather we have most of the year. If enjoying the outdoors is a priority, there are many things to like about living in Carlsbad.
Because of the weather Carlsbad enjoys flowers of varying kinds year-round, and The Flower Fields are an amazing collection of color, and blooming time is approaching quickly. The transformation from dirt-brown hillside to vibrant color is truly spectacular. The Flower Fields have a colorful history (sorry about the pun); the current location dates from the late 1950s, but previous fields existed in several other locations as the commercial grew from it small beginnings in the 1930s.
The Flower Fields are about 50 acres of colorful Ranunculas planted on a hill within view of the ocean, and can be seen from adjacent roadways including the 5 freeway. Planted in rows of a single color (for the most part), the Flowers Fields resemble a large living painting. This year the Flower Fields will be open from March 1 until May 11, from 9 am until 6 pm each day.
Special events are planned throughout the blooming season, including:
- Kid’s Day on March 29
- Red Hat Ladies’ Day on April 5
- Bluegrass Day on April 11
- Canon Photography Workshop is offered on April 13
- Arts and Crafts Fair on April 12 and 13, and 19 and 20
- An Orchid Shopping Experience from April 25 – 27
- Exotic Plant Sale on May 3 and 4
- A Mother’s Day Celebration on May 11
There is free parking, restrooms, and a number of other flower features including a display of the area’s famous poinsettias, a Sweet Pea maze, an antique tractor ride and areas for picnics.
The Flower Fields are located just north of Palomar Airport Road at 5704 Paseo del Norte. Visit the Flower Fields website or call (760) 431-0352 to obtain more information.
