As a ReMax agent who also owns a separate property management company, I often get calls from people seeking a rental home. If the home they are calling about is no longer available the potential tenants will sometimes ask if I can drive them around and show them other agent’s listings. I really want to help every potential tenant out there, but the time that it takes to search, schedule, and show, other rental homes doesn’t usually justify the effort. I would not be running my business efficiently by doing this. In my role as a property manager, I am not really looking for a long-term relationship with a tenant prospect. It makes more sense to refer that tenant to a sales agent in my network. Potential tenants would be better served by an agent who has more time to help them find the perfect rental home.
